Some instructions from Amy:
1) With a memory in mind, please come prepared to complete one of the following statements with a word or short phrase: “She is _____.” or “She was _____.” Only the word or phrase will appear on the stitched work. (Completed sentence examples: “my mother,” or “incorrigible,” or “beautiful,” or “just a girl.” We are seeking honest feelings. This doesn’t even have to be based on a real person.)
2) Bring a small, somewhat flat and lightweight object that either has meaning to you, or belonged to a female or the female who fits your description (an example could be a small bit of jewelry, a scrap of cloth, a coin, a key, a stone, a small toy -- photographs, unfortunately, will not work for this project). This item will be embedded into the larger work, so nothing too precious. We will also have a few objects for you to choose from.
Your work and name will become part of a larger installation in conjunction with the exhibition Inheritance: makers. memory. myth.
